Talladega Frights is the first permanent haunt in Bakersfield, California. Having grown up in Bakersfield, I used to go to other haunts as a teenager, so I think I am a pretty good judge of the local scare industry in this part of the state.
From the beginning of this haunt, patrons become a part of the experience. From waiting in line, to purchasing a ticket, to walking through a graveyard where, occasionally, a troupe of dancers break into the "Thriller" dance, the price of admission is already recouped, and you haven't yet entered the actual haunt.
I won't spoil the rest of the experience for you, but let's just say that by the end, my companions had wet themselves, and people were gathered outside at the exit area (some in lawn chairs) to watch others come running out screaming.
Overall, the experience from door-to-door was about 15 minutes (depending on whether you run or walk through), well worth the $10 entrance fee. That price includes the pre-entry entertainment, which was unexpected and delightful.
I highly recommend this haunt if you are traveling through central California. You won't be disappointed. The quality of the costumes, room, props and even the actors feel like something from Universal Studios. A++ effort!
